Ben is an experienced counsel at the English Bar and an arbitrator in international commercial disputes. He is a member of 39 Essex Chambers and is English qualified, however, he has lived and worked in Asia for more than 10 years. In his counsel work, he provides advisory and advocacy services across a broad range of sectors, principally general commercial, international trade and commodities, business sales and purchases, joint venture and other commercial agreements, energy, and insurance and re-insurance. Dr. Fan serves as the Executive Vice President of the Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC). He has extensive knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region and is an experienced arbitrator. Over 200 arbitration proceedings have been conducted with him as presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator or co-arbitrator under the rules of UNCITRAL, CAS, SIAC, etc. In addition, he is the immediate past Chair of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators East Asia Branch’s PRC Subcommittee. Besides commercial arbitration, Dr. Fan has extensive experience in sports dispute resolution. He is a listed arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and chairs the Arbitration Commission of the Chinese Football Association.

Dr Michael Hwang S.C. currently practises as an international arbitrator and mediator based in Singapore with a selective practice as Senior Counsel of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He served as the Chief Justice of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts from 2010 - 2018. Michael’s other past appointments include: Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Singapore; Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Switzerland and Argentina; President of the Law Society of Singapore; Commissioner of the United Nations Compensation Commission; Vice Chairman of the ICC International Court of Arbitration; Vice President of the International Council of Commercial Arbitration (ICCA); Visiting and later Adjunct Professor of the National University of Singapore. He was educated at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Oxford University, where he won a college scholarship by open competitive examination. Prior to 1 July 2012, Rimsky Yuen SC’s practice was primarily commercial in nature with experience in various areas of commercial and related civil matters. The key areas of his practice included advisory and court works relating to contract disputes, shareholders and partners disputes, corporate and personal insolvency, banking, insurance and international trade. Apart from acting as advocate in court or arbitral proceedings, Rimsky Yuen SC also from time to time acted as arbitrator in international arbitration and as mediator in commercial and other civil disputes. During the period from 1 July 2012 to 5 January 2018, Rimsky Yuen SC occupied the position as Secretary for Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”). In his capacity as Secretary for Justice, he acted as the chief legal adviser to the HKSAR Government overseeing five key areas of legal works: (1) civil disputes involving the HKSAR Government; (2) criminal prosecutions; (3) international law; (4) drafting of government legislation; and (5) legal policy matters (including the promotion of arbitration and mediation) as well as law reform. After his resignation as Secretary for Justice on 5 January 2018, Rimsky Yuen SC resumed private practice in April 2018 at Temple Chambers as barrister, arbitrator and mediator specializing in commercial disputes. Since then, he has been appointed as arbitrator in various international arbitrations (both Hong Kong and overseas) and has also been retained as advising counsel or advocate in various commercial disputes.

Kaarli Eichhorn is an antitrust partner at Jones Day. Kaarli has acted on a significant number of high-profile and politically sensitive merger and antitrust matters globally for more than 20 years. Kaarli is vice-chair and member of the board of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union. Prior to joining Jones Day, Kaarli was global executive counsel of competition law & policy at General Electric Company (GE). During his 10-year tenure at GE he advised on hundreds of international transactions and led the merger review clearance processes with government agencies globally. He is a prior member of the board of European Justice Forum, a former vicechair of the In-House Competition Counsel Association, and member of the Business Europe Competition Committee. He is a non-governmental advisor at the International Competition Network. Kaarli has authored numerous articles and a textbook on competition law. He is a frequent speaker at conferences.

Jingzhou Tao is an independent arbitrator based in Beijing. He is an avocat à la Cour de Paris. He has more than 38 years of experience advising Fortune 500 companies for the negotiation of hundreds of mergers and acquisitions, joint venture contracts, international construction contracts, production sharing agreements, etc. He has acted as counsel, co-arbitrator, chair and sole arbitrator in more than two hundred international arbitration proceedings before major international arbitration institutions such as ICC, LCIA, SIAC, HKIAC, CIETAC, BAC, etc. He is a member of the advisory boards of CIETAC and HKIAC, the expert committee member of Chinese International Commercial Court of Chinese Supreme Court. Ms. Wenny Huang is the Director & Head for International Partnership and Arbitration Development Department of Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC). Wenny holds LLM degree specializing in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from City University of Hong Kong and LLB degree from East China University of Political Science and Law. She also holds the Fellowship of Chartered Institute of Arbitrator (FCIArb). Before joined SHAC, Wenny worked for the leading dispute resolution institutions such as the Singapore International Mediation Center and the International Chamber of Commerce. She also previously worked as legal counsel in several Fortune 500 companies. Wenny is experienced on the international dispute resolution (including arbitration and mediation) and is on the panel of several arbitral institutions and mediation institutions. Adrian Emch began developing his understanding in competition/antitrust law while at university. After graduation, he first worked at the Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) at the European Commission, and then spent several years in private practice in Brussels focusing on European Union competition law. In July 2008, Adrian made his second move back to China, which was just a month before the country's Anti-Monopoly Law came into force. Since that time, Adrian has had the privilege of witnessing and actively participating in shaping the development of China's nascent antitrust regime. As a fluent Mandarin speaker and with his experience as lecturer at Peking University and Shanghai Jiatong University, Adrian smoothly navigates business and legal communities from both the West and China. Adrian's experience covers all aspects of competition/antitrust law, including merger control, cartel/abuse of dominance investigations, and antitrust counselling. Adrian is the National Vice Chair of the Legal and Competition Working Group of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

Xin Liu

Liu Xin is a partner in Freshfields’ Asia dispute resolution group and splits his time between Hong Kong and mainland China offices. Xin specialises in cross-border disputes, international arbitration, and global investigations. With over 15 years of practice experience, he often acts for multinational corporations and Chinese companies on some of their most complex cross-border disputes. These matters include both commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, with proceedings conducted under the ICC, HKIAC, SIAC, ICSID, CIETAC, SHIAC, and UNCITRAL Rules. Xin studied law in China, the US, Finland and Hong Kong and is qualified in both New York and China (non-practicing). Before joining Freshfields, Xin worked for four years with a leading Chinese law firm in Beijing and the World Bank in Washington, D.C. He has also been seconded to Freshfields’ New York office for a year.

Regina Zhou is a principal in Control Risks’ Compliance, Forensics and Intelligence practice, based in Shanghai. She is a forensic accountant and has supported clients in audit, investigations and disputes for more than 15 years in both mainland China and Hong Kong. Regina has extensive experience conducting internal and government investigations, involving asset misappropriation, financial statement fraud, employee misconduct/corruption, third-party due diligence, FCPA reviews and compliance risk assessments. She has also conducted numerous engagements for high-profile financial institutions assisting them in the remediation of breaches in Anti-Money Laundering and financial crime compliance. Regina has worked with clients from a wide range of sectors, including governments, regulators, financial services companies, law firms and multinationals. Before joining Control Risks, Regina was a senior director in the risk, forensics and compliance practice of Ankura, based in Hong Kong. Before that, she worked in forensic and compliance consulting with three of the Big 4 accounting firms in Hong Kong. A native of Nanjing, Regina studied in Hong Kong and holds a bachelor’s degree of accountancy and law. Carmen Liu is a Principal in Control Risks' Compliance, Forensics and Intelligence practice. She is based in Shanghai and leads the China business intelligence team. Carmen specialises in strategic intelligence, commercial and reputational due diligence, dispute support, fraud and market misbehaviour investigations. Her project experience includes the real estate, healthcare and pharmaceutical, finance and banking, automotive, retail, aviation and shipping sectors. Before joining Control Risks in 2012, Carmen worked as an auditor for KPMG in Shanghai. Her primary responsibilities included conducting substantive audit procedures and US Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) control tests. Significant projects included an audit for a Hong Kong pre-IPO project. Carmen holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Fudan University. She is a native Mandarin speaker and is fluent in English.

Crystal is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and sits on the panel of arbitrators for the Asian International Arbitration Centre and Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei.
